Windows XP creating user ID's with certain rights

Hi,

I've got a laptop that I use for work and it has a VPN client, a special firewall and Nortell networks tunnel guard software loaded for VPN connection into my work place.

What I want to do is set us a user id on my laptop that does not have the VPN related stuff loaded up so I can use the network on my own wireless link at home. With the VPN related software it won't work as it blocks the IPC traffic.

Is there anyway I can set up a user id that does not load up this software when starting the pc up?

There is a high probability that your company would have locked down the system with administrator rights which would mean it would be difficult for you to set up a seperate account.

Your next easy option is to purchase a 2.5" hard-drive (size dependant on what you want to do) and then get a hard drive bay from ebay which fits your works laptop. Most laptop hard drive bays are only held into place with one small screw and therefore all you need to do is swap the drives over....once the operating system and whatever goodies you want loaded its just a matter of swapping drives over. I know a few peeps who do this and it always ensure their works laptop never has anything on it from home.

Hi I have admin rights so that would not be a problem. Just want to know if it's possible to set up different user id's that can start various software on startup.

Yes you will have to give certain privileges though, for what programs you want to start. Via a new snap in on the Microsoft Management Console and then add a new user then set priveleges and rights
