Which DVD Recorder with Hard Drive and Digi tuner?

Looking for a DVD Recorder with hard drive, freeview tuner, and upscaling to use with a Philips 37inch LCD TV (model5522). I have come up with three alternatives and would apprciate comments/recommendations/ pricing alternatives.

Panasonic DMREX77EB-K £199.99 delivered (Dixons)
Sony RDR-HXD870 £177.79 delivered (Digitech)
Philips DVDR5520H £234.94 (Dixons)

I know I can get an additional 3% money back via quidco on Dixons.

We've got the Sony and we are very pleased with it.

Make sure the one you buy (whichever make) has at least 160 memory.

I am thinking of buying the sony dvd hdd recorder.

Can you record a freeview program while watching another?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  • The Panasonic records to DVD RAM, if that is important to you.

Not with the ones you mention as they only have a single tuner - unless of course your TV has a freeview tuner in which case you can.

If your TV doesn't have Freeview then you will need something like a Topfield or Humax PVR, both of which have twin freeview tuners and large had drive capacities - neither though have a DVD nor upscaling. You could of course just buy a separate freeview box just for the TV which would be slightly cheaper
