Handset upgrade cost warning
Hi,
Just a quick warning about the cost of upgrades with Orange. I've just upgraded to a Nokia 6230i handset. On my tarriff, the following prices for the handset were quoted. In reverse order
Phones 4U - You need to go onto a new tarriff on one of the 18 month contracts!
Carphone Warehouse £120
The Link £70
Orange Shop £60
Orange Upgrades (150 - Option 4) £40
Orange Online £0
I've gone with the Orange Online price.
It is well worth shopping around.
Andy

Did you go to the stores/call them up to get those prices? If so, it's astonishing how many times the "independent" stores will persuade you to churn (disconnect/reconnect) - because they get more commission on a new connection than on an upgrade.
You should also find that the upgrade cost isn't based on your tarrif, rather it's based on your average monthly spend/usage/calling profile combination.0 -
Hi,
All of these figures were based on about 45 mins of walking round Bournemouth on Sunday morning. Phones4u was the only one to want me to change. At the moment, thanks to Martin, I'm on the Select 500 tarriff (500 mins £25) and have been for over a year now. When I told them the tarriff they didn't try to get me to change as they couldn't match it.
Phones4u came up with a £30 per month O2 tarriff and if I took out their insurance package were willing to give me £60 in cash there and then so that the tarriff was at the £25 per month mark. Their insurance was £9.99 per month! Orange care is £5 per month. They were told rather quickly what they could do with their offer. They seemed to want rather a lot of personal details, so I told them that if any of it was used for marketing, I would be a) making a formal complaint to the Data Protection registrar and b) looking at following it up through a small claims court. Yes, the box for I do not concent to this being used for marketing was ticked and they were informed that I was registered with the TPS and MPS schemes.
As far as network barginning goes, 2 weeks ago Orange Upgrades (150 option 4 on the phone) told me that it would be free. When I came to upgrade it was £40. In their shop it was £60 and online on their website it was free!

Yes but you can cancel it at anytime, i took the 6680 with £100 cash back there and then and came home and cancelled the insurance weeks later as i had 1 month free
