hi,
i am currently thinking of getting a new laptop. i have a compaq presario r3000 at the minute.
2.8Ghz, 60gb Hard drive, 256 mb RAM etc.
i am looking to upgrade to a better one if possible, but have had a look around and there are a few at about the same price i paid for mine (£830) which is what i am wanting to pay again but they are 1.6Ghz pentium m processor?????
i really havent got much of a clue with things like this but isnt that slower than the one i have already?
i have been thinkin that there might have been some development with computers and that the 1.6 is maybe faster than the 2.8????
am i correct in thinkin this?
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

The Pentium M processor is a Mobile processor and therefore specially designed for laptops. These laptops tend to be lighter, more power efficient and can be wifi ready. Don't be confused by the processor size, I have a 1.5 Pentium M and it compares to 2.8 P4's in benchmarks.
As a matter of interest, why are you wanting to upgrade, the one you have sounds pretty decent spec? You could upgrade the RAM to 512 for around £30, and save yourself some dosh. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Laptops are a great source of confusion for most people, a quick search on ebay will illustrate this as some of them are quite overvalued. Your laptop spec is not that bad really, im assuming you must have purchased yours fairly recently...
Perhaps the best place to look for a good value new decent laptop is the dell outlet site. The stock is leftovers and fixed returns and such all with warrenty
Take a look here click here for dell outlet site
make sure you spend a good deal browsing their selection as they have loads.0 -
i am lookin to upgrade as i have had a few problems with mine so far even after doing a fresh install so i have nearly ha d enough of it but really need a laptop.
i know the one i have got isnt that bad a spec but just wanted to know if a lower size processor but a pentium m would be as fast as mine or even faster. which i guess it is?
another reason is that i would like a smaller laptop as this one is a bit bulky for what i need it for.
its just really an idea i am having about changing it for the better.
thanks

You could tell us what problems you are having and maybe we could help. If you get it working you could either keep it or sell it and put the money towards a newer model. How old is it? Is it not under warrranty? This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
