I've got a Toshiba and I use TomTom in the car. It works very well. Presently they don't do an upgrade for my machine but I'm quite familiar with the old system (mine's 3) Presently my daughter has it in France!! But she's coming back on Monday and I can do a check for what you need or I can try and answer from memory.
I assume you haver the program already installed on an SD disc which you wish to access. If you've bought it second hand you might have a problem because usually the software is installed from a PC using Active Sync. Do you have a USB connector? Active Sync is free from Microsoft.
Spotlight systems sell GPS aerials. I have two cars and installed a new GPS aerial in the second. One aerial came with the TomTom set up. I can plan journeys on mine without a GPS and when I run it in demo mode I can watch the route.
Come back if you need help or you can Email me direct - I hope I'm not breaking any rules(!) at mikelockey@ntlworld.com

Try visiting the tom tom website, at https://www.tomtom.com also just try pressing all the buttons, I have Tom Tom 5 for PDA and have used it since version 3. It is possible to to do 'Advanced planning' or set up an 'Itinerary' of places you want to vist. The system is mostly friendly, although beware it Tom Tom seems to have the occasional strange ideas about where the exits are on Roundabouts!
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
