inexpensive hotels in paris and venice

My family will be traveling to Paris for several days and would like information on inexpensive hotels (safe and clean). I will be traveling with my elderly parents so we would like somewhere in walking distance of the sights.

We will then be taking a cruise beginning in Venice. The cruise ship departs from birth 18 at Marittima station. I don't know how far the nearest hotel is from the dock. Again I need an inexpensive hotel for the night befor boarding the ship.

Any suggestions?

Try the Ibis chain. We stayed at one of their hotels in Montpellier last weekend and it was great. The room was pretty small but what we needed, with a huge really comfy bed and a decent shower, and was only €62 a night. They're a French company but have hotels all over Europe so I'm sure they'd have some in Venice as well. Website is https://www.accorhotels.com. They also run the eTap and Formule 1 brands which are even cheaper, but these are mainly at motorway junctions so prob not what you need. They've got some more upmarket brands as well which I haven't tried, but Ibis is definitely recommended!
