I've never transferred ISPs before - what are the likely pitfalls?

Does the new ISP (talktalk) make all arrangements or do I have to give notice to cancel my existing arrangements with Freeserve & BT (line rental)?

If so, what happens during the month's notice period - do I have 2 internet connections on my PC?

I've notified all kosher incoming emails to use my hotmail for next few months but will the ones I may have forgotten get redirected?

First of all you need to contact youe present ISP (Orange) for a MAC code, which you then give to your new ISP (TalkTalk), this will enable them to transfer you to their network with the minimum disruption, the whole process usually takes no more than 7 to 10 days, you shouldn't loose your internet connection for more than a couple of hours, you're probably have to reboot your modem/router on the day of the transfer, your new ISP should advise you of this.

You will only ever have one ISP live on your line at the time.

Not sure about the email situation though, some ISP's let you keep your email address after you leave them (AOL for one), but some don't.

    Hope this helps.
