Caller display and BT SMS messages

I enabled my parents caller display so I could tell if it was a business call for me, or a friend/family. It's working great.

But all of a sudden, I've started receiving calls from BT with SMS messages being read out over the phone. At first I thought this was a scam, but BT says that this is actually a bona fide service AND it should be showing on my caller display rather than ringing my line.

Unfortunately I have a lot of friends

These friends get drunk

So far this week I've had three telephone calls from BT with messages at times from 10pm-2am. Times I've been asleep

Any ideas on how to stop them ringing us and displaying the message on the caller display like it's supposed to?

Are you sure you have not misunderstood what BT said?

AFAIAA, SMS messages are displayed on telephones which have SMS displays, not on phones which have Caller Display displays.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I quite clearly said to her "When you say 'caller display' do you mean the BT caller reminder display unit I purchased" and she said 'it should do'.

It annoys me that I've only just paid for one, and it's outdated already!

Ring 0800 5875252 and you can disable this feature. ;)

    More information on BT Text.

If your phone isn't SMS enabled and you want to receive/send using a landline, you may wish to consider buying a Magic Messenger. If you do, have a look at Scancom, they're £4.99 plus p&p at the moment.
