I couldn't work out if this was better here or in 'pure money, anything else' so mods please move if i've chosen wrong. (I throught wills were about familys but hey I could be wrong :rotfl: )
Ive just got some will related questions if anyone could shed some light I would be greatful
Where is the best place to get a will done, I would like to get a diy at home one (money saving style) but would this stand up ok after I die?
Could I put the music I want played at my funeral in my will or would this information go elsewhere?
Can you name individual things (such as a ring, a wooden box or a book) to go to individual people (My sister, good friend joe bloggs etc)?
If I do a diy will and seal it in an envolope, is it possible to leave letters to people in smaller envolope inside the will?
If anyone has anything else to add that might be informative, please do
(Again sorry if Ive posted in the wrong place)

In order:-
1. I would strongly suggest that you see a solicitor and get this done properly. That way you remove any doubt about it being right. There are specific ways of wording wills and rules on execution. If you get it wrong it will be invalid. You should be able to get it done for about £65. It is not money saving if your estate eventually gets eaten up in fees because someone challenges your will later. Nor is it money saved if your wishes are not met because you got it wrong.
2. Yes you can do this but this will also be subject to any restrictions placed by the Church/crematorium or whatever when the time comes. In addition, your funeral wishes put in your will do not have to be met by those arranging it.
3. Yes, this is standard in wills. For these to take effect you must make sure the wording above it is correct in the will otherwise you could make conditional gifts that then are not activated. Another reason to get it done professionally.
4. You should not leave anything inside the same envelope as your will as these could be construed as being part of your will and could cause conflict.0 -
I seen asda sell DIY will kits for £9.99 with a free CD. Anyone know if these are any good?
Anyone advise on best way to do a will during a divorce. I am in the process of divorce and my solicitor wants £100 for a will, but i am reluctant to pass over another £100 especially as my legal bill is running into £000's already.
Is there any charity giving free wills in return for a donation - i much prefer this option...??0 -

There is a scheme called "Make a Will Week" which runs around November. There were a few threads on it last year. This is where you get a participating solicitor to draw up the will but you make a donation to charity instead of paying their fee.
You need to make your will after your decree absolute and you should do it with the benefit of proper legal advice if you want to be sure it is correct and says what you really want it to say.
Not sure where you live, but the going rate around here (London) is £65.0 -
Some charities - I think Barnados is one - will put you in touch with a firm to do you a free will if you are over 50.
I wouldn't risk a DIY will during divorce! Stakes too high.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
thanks for the advice.
cant even think of who to leave my savings etc to apart from some to charities etc.0 -
