Got a flyer from Talk Talk today regarding paying them for line rental rather than BT, so you only get one Bill.
Does anyone have any further details of what they have on offer, i.e. Is it going to be heaper than BT Option 1 with free caller display.

That gum you like is coming back in style.

Like all the other 'line rental providers' now joining the market, TalkTalk will obviously pitch their rental lower than BT's £10.50/month. I suspect it won't be by much though - they'll all push that 'one bill' rubbish and offer about 50p/month reduction. I have not heard of any offering free Caller Display (yet).
As has been mentioned many times, the question of timely line repairs needs to be considered because BT is just selling on use of its lines and will have to be the 'repairer' should that be necessary. That immediately suggests a chain of (1) customer reporting fault to supplier and (2) supplier reporting fault to BT and a similar 2-step process upon completion.
The other, more serious, aspect is that of access to other 'call providers' like 1899 and 18866. Whereas BT are required by their licence to allow customers renting lines from them to dial out via whoever they choose, the likes of Talk Talk are not. I have not read their T&Cs in any detail but I expect they have been careful to include clauses which allow them to block or charge extra for such access. They probably won't enforce them at the start - but they have the means and may well spring the trap a little later.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I think TT just pass on the £10.50 to BT there is a space on the TT bill that says "Line Rental (Billed By BT)" with £0.00 on my bill0

Spoken to TalkTalk customer rep this morning. He said 1. they will not interfer with any internet access (IPs require BT line so watch it) 2. They do not include caller display in the 9.99 package, that is another £1.50 per month so on the face of it they will be more expensive than the £10.50 BT with free caller display.
I was sceptical so he is getting a supervisor to ring me back. I have had a 'caller did not disclose number' on my BT caller disply while I have been out so they might have phoned back.
Will keep posted but it doesn't look lile a very good offer, I can cope with two bills as I have lots more coming in every month!!!!!!!!!0 -
BT,s free caller display offer was a clever move on there part.As there no financial benefit now (if you use caller display) for you to move your line rental to another supplier. Apart from all the other reasons not to.PF.0

not worth it as they would ''control'' your line [now in BT conrol] & if u were late or in dispute COULD cease yr line without BT's authoirity and leave u high n dry!!
ONLY ADVANTAGE WOULD BE HAVING ONE-BILL ONLY BUT WITH MOST GUYS using diff suppliers anyway what the hell.0 -

So if you made no calls in a month, your bill with BT and caller display would be £10.50 and you bill with TT and caller display would be £11.49.
Talktalk offer £1000 if your bill is higher than BT's do they not?0 -
Sorry, BT can charge for caller display if you make no calls using their line. No idea how many calls you have to make, I am trying one per month and hoping.0

If you are already on talktalk like myself you can not make calls on your BT rented line as all calls are routed automatically via talktalk. So how can I get call display for free, I'm already paying for it and have not had a BT bill since to confirm if this has changed.0

You can use Bt as you only have cps your calls to TT. All you have to do is prefix the number you are dialling with the bt overide code 1280.
So put a few calls over BT.Couple a month and you should qualfy. If you ring Bt Cs they will change the charging for you.PF.0 -
Im on TT and get free caller display from BT you just dial 1280 before you make a call and it routes it via BT you only have to make 1 call per bill to qualify for free caller display , the best way to do this is as soon as you get your BT bill just dial you mobile and answer it for 2 seconds and thats it you qualify0
