I stand corrected and apologise for maligning CPW stores staff.
However the fact remains that CPW know that this is a problem and have done nothing to contact people who might be affected. It's now been 16 days since I got my phone and still no sign of my top up. Anyone who bought one as a present or is waiting to use up their credit on an existing phone is going to get a rude awakening when they try and use it.
If CPW can get a phone to me on next day delivery, then they can stick a £10 top up card in an envelope and send it to me.
Usual - 'computer says no!' attitude which leaves you the option of waiting another 7 days (if you've pointed out the phone number error to them!!! - hell take you if you haven't) or if you get them to agree to a cheque - allow 28 days.
As to the 'can't credit your SIM immediately' - they seem to be saying that they can't credit your SIM, just in case you return it under the 7 day distance selling laws - but you can't return it anyway?
Anyone else read Catch 22?All the World is a Stage; and I'm going through a difficult one at the moment!0 -
Fully agree. Its a farse that they recon because of distant selling laws they can't immediately credit your sim with what you paid for. Ironically instore can be done at the time of purchase.
Seems a cop out to me.
Because ANY goods sold online can be returned within 7 days under Distance Selling Regulations. In-store they can just say "we won't refund your airtime if you return a phone". Online they wouldn't get away with that so they wait until after the DSR return period.0 -

DSR rules say 7 days from delivery (not order) - so in theory you could still demand your money back for the £10 credit after the 8 days (but it would be too late to return the phone and physical SIM card itself)!
So basically CPW makes it so difficult nobody can be bothered with the hassle. All the World is a Stage; and I'm going through a difficult one at the moment!0 -
Didn't know thats how the distant selling laws worked, handy to know.
I got my credit sorted today by going down with my customer number. The SA tried putting the £15 credit onto the number on the invoice and we had to explain to him that thats where the problems began anyway so he gave us a top up till credit receipt we put on ourselves.A male chef of 4. My restaurant is always full and i don't need to tout for business.
OK OK I'm a house husband but it did sound better my way :beer:0 -
I had the same problem as most of the others on here..ie, credit not applied, and sim's not matching . Emailed both Virgin and CPW on Saturday. Had an immediate response from Virgin saying they would help in any way they could and giving me a number to call for Carphone Warehouse. Received a call from CPW at 8-30 this morning saying that if I went into one of their stores today, they would put the credit straight on, which they did with no problems. No apology though, but at least it's sorted....0

Very pleased to recieve the J110i and waited the 8 days. No credited airtime so had to faff around phoning. I am now told they may have muddled up the sim numbers and to wait another 8 days. Then thought i would register online and at least get the £2 offered. Nothing so far - I bought this on the 22 feb and have no intention of topping up with virgin if they are so inefficient. Obviously others have had a similar problem -did they ever get their airtime?
Now want to unlock this phone and use my old orange sim!0 -
I have sent two emails to Carphonewarehouse and all I got was 2 automated replies saying they aim to reply within 24hrs (still waiting).
I emailed Virgin last night, they phoned this morning and put the £10 credit on. No fuss, no mess, great customer service from them, poor show by Carphone Warehouse. Suggest people do that.
Also, register your phone on the Virgin Website and get £2 credit.0
