Egg Credit Card

I cancelled my egg credit card about 18-24 months ago,
so that I could both maintain my credit score and re-apply for a 'new customer' 0% deal in the future.
When I re-applied recently I was amaised to discover that my account was still valid!!!!!!!
Has anyone else had this problem?
How do you actually close an egg account?
I sent them a message regarding the above, there reply was that they could only susspend my account for 24 hours!!!????
What all this about? ??? ??? ???

  • yes I had the same problem about couple of years ago. I cancelled my egg card on the phone. the guy said your card is cancelled now but when I tried to log in couple of months later ( was just curious) I found that they did not cancel my account and it was still active. I rang them again and they apoligised and cancelled my account.(as i could not log in few days later)

couple of months ago applied once again for their card. when I started to fill my application form, there was an option that if you are a previous egg customer, put your details and just update few things and was got accepted with double the credit limit as I was before when I cancelled my account ;D

Egg (and others) are crafty. They offer multiple services so maintain you as an active customer who just happens not to have any active products. Cancelling the card is not sufficient, you have to ask them to remove you as a customer. You have to wait at least six months before returning.
  • So if you have, say, an egg mortgage and credit card and want to cancel just the card so you can reapply sometime in the future, can that be done without moving the mortgage?!?

I don't think you can, you'd need to ask Egg to be sure but when they say the offer is for "new customers only" I think that would rule you out. No harm in trying and if the answer isn't one you like you could always threaten to become an ex-mortgage customer too.
