Graduating today - hat/robes tips!

It has finally come around today I am finally attending my graduation ceremony for my MSc! Now during my BA graduation I had a few hat problems any one have any tips to avoid having the same issues for this one! I have a ton of hair grips ready for service. Also any one know how to keep the pesky coloured part of the gown on your back as you walk not falling down your side as mine did during my BA. (in my photos I look like a bull fighter not a proud graduate!) Please help me get my award with suitable dignity! I cannot believe how hard it is to wear those robes.

Wear a shirt with buttons on it, so that the hood bit can hook on, and preferably one that you can tuck into your trousers/skirt. At my graduation, the hoods all had a little button loop on the point, so that you could hook it on. All of the girls who didn't wear a buttoned shirt had terrible problems keeping them on. The hoods are also surprisingly heavy, so if you don't have a tucked in shirt the hood pulls your shirt up and looks really daft, and slides everywhere. I have no idea what body shape they're made to fit but it's definitely not me!!
Hat wise, I think hairgrips are the way to go. They take so many measurements from you but I don't know anyone who actually got a hat that was the size they'd asked for! Fortunately at my graduation we only had to wear them as we walked out of the cathedral, so you have to walk VERY straight and VERY slowly lol.0 -
just had to relate a story from when I graduated from my MSc at Leicester. When I was queuing beforehand to pick up my gown and robe, the black guy in front of me had a pretty big, dense afro coming at least 3 inches off his head. As the old guy from Ede and Ravenscroft approached with his robes and hat.. you should have seen the look on his face. The guy said "Er... I haven't actually had a haircut since I ordered the robes..." They managed to get it to stay on with a handful of hair grips but it was so funny to watch... when he walked away it was just bobbing on the top of his afro!0

Hiya
Just wanted to say well done and congratulations and add to the bit about putting the loop through the buttons. But aren't the robes heavy?!
Good Luck

Thanks had a good day the hat pins struggled but the hat remained on for my walk across stage. Posing in robes in the middle of B'ham city is probably one of the most embarrassing things I have had to do in years!0
