My solicitor has taken six years. YES!!! SIX YEARS!!! Fannying about trying to complete my simple and straight forward divorce. The OSS have been trying to get him to finish it for the past two years and this does not include 14 months of me trying to resolve things through the OSS's resolution forms (2 sets of). The solicitor completely ignored the first set (even though they were sent registered post and then twice by fax).
He never turned up for 2 appointments that he made and then failed to turn up to a further 2 home visit appointments leaving me looking through the window like a lemon for hours waiting. Two sets of paperwork were so grossly wrong they were returned to him 6 times. YES SIX TIMES!!!
Is this the longest non complicated divorce in history? Now into year 7! What to do next, cos' I'm clueless? I'd love the which magazine to take the story up cos its hilarious! BUT NOT FOR ME!

Change solicitor maybe?0 -
Hi Oscardog,
Yeh thought of that years ago. Trouble is I've paid this one in full and he's only got one task left to do; explain to the courts why it has taken so long so that they will issue my decree absolute. The nisi was issued in 2000 feb. The OSS want him to finish it so that they can approach him for compensation. Plus if I engage another solicitor I'll have another astronomical bill to look forward to.0 -
I think you need to lodge a complaint with the body he is registered with. I can't for the life of me think what it is called, but all solicitors have to be on this register otherwise they are not permitted to practice. A hunt on the internet or a swift phone call to CAB should tell you what you need to know. He probably wouldn't lose his right to practice but he would get a damn good scare when you complain to them.0

Thanks Snowyowl and telly-addict,
As mentioned in first thread, the law society have been chasing it up for the past two years. The OSS stands for the Office of Supervision for Solicitors; it is a specialist branch of the Law Society and they've been involved since late 2001.
My solicitor seems to be fobbing them off admirably! I wish they would get serious with Shyster, Schmuck and Co.0 -
OMG good luck, and once it's completed, there is a suberb vent board where you might want to name and shame Shyster, Schmuck and Co.
Abosultely shocking, especially over such a topic that can at best be sensitive...at worst a nightmare!0 -

Actually all you need to do is ask another solicitor to do you an affidavit setting out why it has taken so long. Shouldn't cost you more than £50 which would be recoverable from your current solicitor.
I don't understand why the OSS are !!!!!footing around. I think you need to get firmer with them as well as with your solicitor.0 -
OSS are not around anymore are they? I thought they are CCS now not def though you will have to check. All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0

Yeh, they are still around. Believe me, I ring them every couple of weeks. Their head office is in London and that's who is dealing with it now, to no avail. Shyster, Schmuck & Co have cost me as I have suffered financial loss, depression and oodles and shedfulls of stress.0
