Nationwide card collection problems

Just to let people know, Nationwide credit card services have had problems in the last few days taking direct debit payments from customers. My account was not debited by them as expected yesterday so I phoned them this morning.
I was told [perhaps it is just general advice, anyway?] that 1) they would collect as soon as they could iron out the problem 2) make no manual payments meanwhile 3) If charged on the next statement contact then to refund charges and interest.
The slightly more worrying aspect of the conversation was that, not only have some accounts not been collected for, but that some customers accounts may have been charged double as part of the same problem. If this happens to anyone it may involve rather more sorting out if bank charges are the result!

Just to update: They finally took the payment from bank on 21st - crediting card on 20th [Yes, that's how DDs can work!] - 2 days beyond the ''due date''. So the balance is now cleared and will just have wait until the next statement to do another BT. With any luck they may not automatically charge for the delay if they can 'trick' their system into using later cut-off dates. Will advise of the outcome........under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0
