Carrying ID in Las Vegas

Hi, i wonder if anyone could help me, my son is 24 and going to Las Vegas on holiday, i know in America its usual for youngsters to be asked for id in bars, i don't like the thought of him carrying his passport around in case he loses it, does anyone know if the hotels will photo copy the passport and stamp it to verify it so he can carry this around with him, and if so will it be accepted for id.
Thanks in advance.

Id say it would be unlikely that they would accept a photocopy. And they dont just ask youngsters for Id - often people in their 40s or 50s will get Id'ed, seriously. It would be highly likely that a 24 year old would get asked for Id at some point during their stay, considering the legal age fro drinking alcohol is 21. You also need Id to get paid out at casinos, if he's gambling.
  • No they won't take that.

Does he have a driving license? Maybe he could use that instead?

  • When I went I carried my drivers licence, they accept that.

I was asked for id everywhere ! Probably because i'm small, 4"11'

Maybe Vegas is different but I'm 24 and when I went to Phoenix last year, I only took my driver's (photocard) licence as ID for a night out and not one bar accepted it. Only managed to get into hooters because they are the only bar that didn't ID me!! (well...I didn't have a choice! ;) )

my Photo drivers licsence has never been rejected in Las Vegas ( or any where else in USA) . Staff in Vegas are likely to have seen one before.

i 100% guarantee he will get asked , espically if buying beer ect . i'm 35 ( and look it ) and stilll get asked

see the sticky Las Vegas thread at the top of this board if you want any futher advice

I'm considerably older than your son and have never been ID'd for alcohol. However I have used a photocopy of my passport as ID when cashing travellers cheques, using my credit card, joining player's clubs and picking up show tickets.

The only place it was refused was at check in at Caesars Palace and the Sahara player's club.

Hubby's photo driving licence was refused at Harrah's player's club, but my photocopy was accepted.

Perhaps he can carry the passport, photocopy and DL for a couple of days until he finds out what will be accepted. However this could change between establishments.

both me and my sister got id'd in vegas, and also, i get id'd occasionally in NYC, i've never had my photocard driving licence refused on the times that i've used it..

they won't accept a photocopy, they give me a passport, 20 minutes in photoshop, a printer and a photocopier, i can make a a passport show any age if it is a photocopy.. if you know what i mean.... ;)
  • We've booked flights to go to Las Vegas towards the end of March to celebrate DH's forthcoming 50th birthday. We only have paper driving licences so, as we don't particularly fancy carrying our passports around with us, do you think we should replace our paper licences with photo licences or do you think we would be okay with photocopies of the passports? I've just checked over on the DVLA site and the cost will be £10 each. We are not gamblers and so are only likely to play the cheaper slots.

    Kind regards
