Student Loan Query

hey there everyone. I have a few questions i need answered and im hoping someone on here can help me.

Basically i have been to university 3 times. Never completed a course. Im not going into details as it is all fairly boring but thats my situation.

I was considering going back again this year, but will this affect my chances of getting a loan?

I could provide the money myself but it is a fair chunk of change to be laying out all at once. If i was to pay back some of my debt, roughly £10k, would they provide me with a new loan?

or am i better off not paying my old loans and funding myself?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    In a nutshell...
Yes any future funding will be affected by your previous study and no paying the SLC your loan money back won't change that.

From here everything gets quite complicated and will depend on your circumstances, so contact your LEA (the LEA for the area where you live prior to starting the new course) for specific advice according to your situation.

Assuming you are not studying medicine or architecture where the rules can differ, and assuming the rules aren't updated for the year you start your course and also assuming you are not in arrears with your current repayments...
if you studied in 3 separate academic years previously but did not graduate and you now want to study another 3 year undergraduate course starting in year 1, you may qualify for maintenance loan only (i.e. no tuition fee support and no grant).

    Unless...

You have 'compelling personal reasons' for not completing some of your studies (and these have to be major e.g. death of parent and you have to have 'independent evidence' e.g. tutor, social worker, counsellor etc that this affected your studies and they were aware it was affecting your studies at the time - you cannot state it affected your studies retrospectively). If you qualify for this I believe the maximum you can achieve is 1 year of full support - which is always at the end of your studies not for the first year.

If your situation is different then you can post more info or PM and I can try to advise but the LEA will have the most up to date info on this.
