TomTom Problem

I have just bought a TomTom Go refurb. I have installed the maps & can use it for navigating, but the only sound I get is the startup sound.
There is no voice prompting via the speaker but, if I plug headphones in I can hear everything OK. I have tried going back to factory defaults & also pressing the reset button, but neither have made any difference.
I will contact the supplier tomorrow, but wondered if anybody had any advice for me to try in the meantime.
Thanks.

This can be caused by the headphone socket. When the jack is pushed in the speaker is shut off and when the jack is removed the speaker should come to life. It's possible that the headphone socket has got a stuck contact. Try putting the headphone jack in and out a few times to try and free it. That's my best guess.

Hi,
If it is a re-furb, it shouldn't be the case, but no-one has loaded the silent voice onto the unit have they - have you tried changing voices? Does the test button work on the voice change?

Thanks to you both for your suggestions. I have now exchanged the faulty unit for a replacement that works OK.
I tried the headphone jack a few times but it made no difference. I also downloaded the extra voices from the CD but they didn't work.
I contacted the seller this morning & explained the problem. He immediately offered a replacement which I have been to collect as I live less than 20 miles away.
Thanks again.Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T0
