idiot needing help!!

hope some kind person out there can help. Got a vostro 1500 today(no instruction manual)and to give you an idea of how computer literate I am it took me 15 mins to figure out how to open it!! It has a pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-Card-Europe in it and I don't want a wireless connection so if I connect with the ethernet cable does this completely disable the wireless conection or is there something else that I have to do?

either disable it in control panel, or use the key combination to switch it off fn+f?

half the joy of laptops is wireless (if you have a wireless router)

am using wireless router on desktop connected with ethernet cable and have wireless disabled I just hadn't a clue about the wireless mini-card thingy (thought it might have to be removed somehow) It scares me reading posts with LAN and things like that in them it's all double dutch to me!!!

if you have the kit, you may as well use the wireless on the laptop, just make sure it is encrypted with wpa-psk/tkip

will there be step by step instructions somewhere on the computer as to how to do this? That's another reason for using ethernet cable I wouldn't have a clue where to start. it's a bit like giving someone who can't knit a pattern and saying just follow the instructions.
