right first thing you need to do is register your domain name and .co.uk website names are held by nominet.

there's loads of free webmaker software available - you should approach a web design forum to get free downloads.
    or
    https://www.tucows.com for downloads.

this website is useful for info about design etc.
    https://www.alistapart.com

if you want your site to be accessible to all then (not just those who use IE, but everyone in every browser!) you need to consider w3c compliance.
    <are you still with me>

and as super dad says "what do you want it to do?"

    Good Luck
it's a long way to the top.
    but the view is impressive

Ok, so some kind of shopping cart of sorts.

Take a look over at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4

I have a dedicated server with these guys, shells with these guys, and shared hosting with this mob and this bunch.

A2B2 are fantastic. Can't recommend them highly enough.
    ASM are pretty good.
QiQ are decent but you'll find better features elsewhere for better money. I'm only with them because of an offer they do every christmas, and because Bitesites were useless.
Bitesites are bloody awful. They b0rked my hosting for a month, and getting them to fix it was a nightmare. The package was cheap though, and included a free domain that would cost more to register than the package did. They've also offered me three free domains to say sorry for the hassle of the hosting being knackered. They're very good at making up for making an !!!! of things, but they REALLY made an !!!! of things, and took a month to fix what should've only taken a few hours.

But yeah, go with A2B2 is my advice. Read the WHT forums too, they're immensely well respected over there.

In fact, read the WHT forums in general, no matter who you choose.

ALSO, there's a forum over there specifically for people doing offers with registering domains - you'll almost always pay more for the domain if you buy it from your webhost than you would if you buy it elsewhere.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
  • mirry if you are selling your crafts you will be after a shopping cart integration then. eg. ZenCart, osCommerce, EcommerceTemplates (dont use thing like the 123-reg shop builder it is no good for SEO)

then you would need to decide on what payment gateways you want to be available to your customers. eg. PayPal, Google Checkout, Worldpay, Protx etc.

After you have decided that then you will need to have the site designed by a web developer/designer and prices can range from £300-£2000+ depending who you go with.

If you need any more advice give me a shout.

Need? I'm not sure in which way the OP is arty, but they might find that they're able to knock up something half-decent by themselves.

If it's for their "crafts" (not entirely sure what that entails) then perhaps something that looks a little home made, and a labour of love, would be fitting?

It will, of course, depend on what the OP is making and selling, and how well it sells, but £300 could be a year's profits.
