Poland is a large country! There is the Baltic in the North and Mountains in the South East. Some Nice Cities too such as Krakow, Poznan and Warsaw of course.
I would reccomend you base yourself in one place for a few days and then tour from there.
As for flights I think that there is a direct budget airline that flies out of Luton or alternatively fly to Berlin and go to Poland from there the border is only an hour away.Waddle you do eh?0 -
Thinking of Warsaw, anyone been there? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes, it's good.
I stayed at the Jan III Sobieski hotel, which is very plush and offers a remarkable breakfast. If you Google it, you should get good rates from any of the sites which appear, which all go through the same reservation portal.
Warsaw old town, which was rebuilt after the war, is well worth seeing, but a better place altogether is Krakow - just over 2 hours from Warsaw on the train, and is a beautiful, unspoilt architectural gem of a town, very similar to Prague, with Europe's largest market square.0 -
If you are interested in history (particualarly the human side) then Auschwitz is very interesting although obviously very sad and shocking as well.
They go into qute a lot of detail and have a lot of real suitcases (with names on), human hair, thousands of shoes and baby clothes (I started to cry when I got to the baby clothes).
It is done in a very respectful manner and I thought it was a good experience to see it.
I didn't think much of the salt mines.0 -

I went to Poland last year with my family. It is a very clean city (ie: devoid of rubbish and litter). I would recommend staying in the city, as although the countryside is beautiful, if you go out there, there is not much to do..... not much night life to be honest.....
Pam, my parents went to Warsaw. It is also very beautiful.

I went to Poland a few years ago now and would recommend to be based in the South near Krakow. Warsaw is OK but it like any large provincial city and didn't compare to Vilnius (in Lithunia) which I visited on the same trip. Krakow however is a beautiful city, various things to do, but still not masses to do. Perhaps you could go to both and take the high speed train from Warsaw to Krakow. and spend a few days there.Always on the lookout0

We went to both Krakow and Warsaw.
The train journey is about 2 hours from memory and was not expensive (although be vigilent around the train stations as you would in any foreign city).
We went with Voyages Jules verne who are on https://www.vjv.co.uk
Have a look at their website as they do some well thought out itineraries.
Even if you are planning to travel independently it's worth seeing where they go for ideas.
I often use their website for ideas because I like their itineraries.

hi lisyloo.
we will be looking to go back there at somepoint in the future, as we have family there now..... (the reason we went was because my brother married a Pole)
What are their prices like?
Regards

In my opinion there prices are very reasonable, however many of the holidays they do include tours (not always fully escorted - sometimes there is free time as well).
If you are going to visit family then this might not suit you.
If you don't want excursions included then you might be better off just booking flights and accomodation seperately.0 -
Really cheap fares available at https://www.wizzair.com
Have just booked return flight to Warsaw from London in August for £640
