HELP.....i've damaged my hirecar. Can I get my own quotes or fix it, to save money?

I would definately get extra cover. I have just scratched and slightly dented one of the rear doors on my hire vehicle. It is due back on Tuesday, and the excess is £400.
Can anyone advice me? How do my rights stand? Do I have a right to get my own quotes or fix it myself?

It should be somewhere in the t&c's that you cannot get a hire car cannot be repaired by anybody not authorised by the company.
If you want to try and improve the look of it take a look at Youtube under heat ice dent repair. That might improve it slightly.

Pay the excess - it will be cheaper. It will cover both the damage and their 'loss of use' charges whilst it's fixed
Bear in mind that DIY will entail you keeping and paying rental for the car until it's fixed.0 -
Hi Sallyann3
My brother does small repairs to cars, clears up scuffs, dents and the like. He works on hire cars all the time for people in exactly your position. He goes to peoples homes or places of work so customers don't have to take their cars into garages. More convenient and he's alot cheaper too. If you look in your yellow pages under car body repairs you'll be able to find someone in your area. I'm not sure wether it goes against your terms and conditions though.

PS If you can't find someone pm me and i can ask my brother if he knows someone in your area.0 -
Honest John's FAQ lists some recommended retailers for minor bodywork repairs costing less than bodyshops and main dealers - worth getting a few quotes if you're looking at getting it repaired yourself though as mentioned above be aware of the rental terms0

just a thought, 99% of the hire cars I hire have some damage to them, so assuming people are paying the excesses, arent the companies supposed to be getting the work done on them?0

I honestly thought this was a thread about a crash i saw yesterday on my way home. A bus hit the back of this corsa which was a hire car.
That would have been too weird."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

This depends on the extent of the damage and how much the car is needed at the particular time. Even if the car is not fixed the company is still billed when the car is returned to the manufacturer at the end of its term.0
