I wanna learn how to play the guitar

At last I have bought myself a guitar, to try and recapture my lost youth, and now need to learn how to play it. I would be grateful if anyone could guide me to a book or video I could get to teach me how to play.
Many thanks

Have a go at Google with "learn to play guitar free" (without the quotes) - over 2 million links.

What i havn't got is the guitar itself because i don't know exactly what to buy or where. I need a cheap left handed classical guitar for a beginner!

There are loads of lessons (for most instruments) on youtube. Some are very good quality by good players. er...some are not so good, but they are free

Take a look and find some that you like and download them for constant use.
Also, go to http://jsguitarforum.com/forum/index.php where you will find a very helpful and friendly community. Loads of free lessons too
Good luck.Marching On Together

Have you had a look on Youtube? There's some good teach yourself videos on there. I've found though that the best way to learn is choose a song with a few simple chords in it (I'm a folky, so there's lots for me to choose from) practice till I can play it, then choose another song with a couple more chords in and go from there . . . probably depends what you're after though - I'm a singer so I'm just learning to strum along and accompany myself. If you're a budding lead guitarist you might need lessons! Try your local further ed office?Slimming World convert, joined 23rd April 2009

This site has lessons from beginner to advanced, in various styles, with online tuning and tablature. I used it quite a lot learning.

The free stuff is good and it certainly is possible to teach yourself an instrument but I would also recommend at some point having some professional tuition, even if it is only the occasional lesson because otherwise it is very easy to develop bad technique which will not only hold back the speed of your improvement and quality of your playing but will also stop you from developing any muscular injuries, etc.
If you are on a bduget I would recommend teaching yourself by getting tabs for songs & online lessons but having an hour with a professional every fortnight (or once a month if you're really strapped) just so they can see what you are doing and make sure you're heading in the right direction - there's no substitute for sitting face to face with someone who knows what they're talking about!
And good luck.0
