CHEAP holiday for family of 5 - 11th July 1 week-anything considered.

We are a family of 5 - neither adult drives (never learned to drive and can't afford a car now we have kids lol).

I can get 1 week off work July 11th (self employed so any time I take off is unpaid - gulp). I THINK this is a week before the kids break up nationwide (but for some reason the kids here in Leicester break up a week earlier than usual).

We would consider ANYWHERE - camping, caravan, mud hut!

But it has to be cheap and available to none drivers.

Any help would be gratefully received as I never seem to get it right.

I know you say cheap but what is your budget?

  • Budget wise - I'm not sure.

Last year husband's mum paid for our accommodation to Scarborough - she paid £400 for a flat for the week (that I chose) and it was VILE - so I'm a bit reluctant to choose anywhere.
We spent about £80-£100 a day for the 5 of us. The holiday was ok - just ok.

The travelling was about £40 return - so all in all we spent approx £1150 on a holiday in a vile flat that was just ok :embarasse

We are open to all ideas (but if we were given a choice would avoid Butlin type holidays or similar -).

Do you not mind if its in England or abroad?
    How old are the kids?
"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
  • Anywhere in UK is fine (Eng,Ire,Sco,Wal)

Kids are 15, 13 and 6 (blame Bacardi Breezer for the 7 year gap!!). All boys - 15 and 13 year old love the 6 year old so much that they would be happy to gear the holiday towards him).

    Thanks again for your help.:T

I am sure someone with alot more knowledge of UK holidays will be able to help you as i am much better at hunting out holidays abroad.

  • What do you reckon would be the cheapest holiday for all 5 of us abroad (wondering if we could save/sell/beg/no stealing to go abroad for a week).

My best friend is going on a Haven holiday - not sure if it's really my thing - she has a car and they go off for days during the holiday to break it up a bit.

Only been to Haven once and i didnt like it,i much prefer to go abroad. There are many members of MSE with families who go to Haven/Butlins etc and love it but each to their own.I will have a look at holidays abroad for you and see what i can come up with. Can you fly from any Midlands airports?

  • Yes, any Midlands but East Mids is nearest.

As you say Haven is loved by a lot of people but if I'm honest it's not for me.

We enjoy the different cultures/food etc when we go abroad so a UK themed place is also not really our thing.

We are not fussy on accommodation - but the Scarborough place was AWFUL - smelly (tom cat's P), full of nic nacks (dried flowers everywhere, large sets of drawers in a very small bedroom that didn't even open), bed sheets with big fag burns, shower that trickled and was dirty - the list was endless.

do you think it may be an option to hold off booking somewhere and seeing if there is anything last minute, especially as it's before the majority of schools break up for summer?
