Boiler HELP!
Hi,
We have recently moved into a new-build two bedroom flat (for the first time!). We have a Santon Premuer Plus electric boilder (there is no gas in the house) installed. Is it wise to leave the boiler switched on at all times?, or is this going to cost a fortune. I was speaking to a boilder expert at work, and he suggested it is cheaper to leave it on all of the time, as opposed to switching it off then having to re-heat it everytime you come in from work. What do you guys think?
On average, we probably use about 50% of the water (one bath, one shower, and the dishes) within a 24 hour period.
Any ideas? Thanks
Craig

Worth having a read of this thread then where heating has been discussed at great length.

The economy 10 electricity tariff would probably be best for your situation with the heater timed to only come on during the economy times. (If you can get E10)0

Why not do a comparison? Leave it on for a week [take reading at start & end], then do same but switching on only when needed
Then you will know what suits your circumstances, and even better you will know exactly how much your costs are
My guess is it will be cheaper to switch off when not in useEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your replies. We are living in rented accomodation (and like I say they are new builds, so you would imagine energy effeciency). There is no thermostat on the boiler, so we can't set times of day and night for on/off. We have had it running about 60-70% on at all times (and about 30% where we turn it on when we need it then turn it off). We moved in at the start of November, and since then we have not had an electricity bill, and we are not sure who the provider is (with it being rented accomodation). I hope we won't be getting bills for 1,000's!
Regards

Hi Craig,
Locate yourself on this map and then click on the link underneath this for the list of MPAS centres and find the name of the one on the map. Call them with your address and they will tell you who the current Supplier is. Then you need to call them to set up an account. If you took your readings when you moved in then they can use that to start your bill from.

Think I might have this sorted now, some of the posts seem to refer to heating. Our heating system is a separate entity from the boiler. We turn the heating on and off as we need it (i.e. each individual raditor)
