Tax credit refund? Is this true?

Hi, I have just seen an advert for a company that say they could claim a tax credit refund for years 2001/2003, but the deadline is 31st Jan 2008. Is this right, and could I not do it myself and save the 18% (at least) they require for commision. Many thanks.

Do not pay a third party company something that you can do yourself.
Your first point of call is to find out what your tax code was for the relevant years.

Do not use these companies, it is only the matter of calling your local tax office to check your tax coding for the relevant tax years which would have been dependant on what your circumstances were.
This is to do with the children's tax credit system before the current CTC and WTC system.0 -
I've just been quoted 25% to claim my tax credit refund back + another £50 of extras in the T&C's!!!
I have all my P60's avaliable to me online through the companies system so that bits easy, can anyone advise me on what I need to do from there?0 -
This is, I believe, about the extra tax allowance parents were given pre the introduction of tax credits. It was worth an extra £500 a year, if I remember rightly.
We were actually given it for an extra year and they tried to claim it back from us. We told them where to stick it as oh is employed and therefore we cannot have been expected to know it was wrong.
But anyway, you just need to fill in a form which you can get from your local tax office. It essentially asks them to review your tax situation and they will let you know of they owe you anything for that year.
I may be wrong of course - but I think that is what it is about.

DO NOT USE THESE COMPANIES.
If you are in anyway worried about the protection of your personal details you should never give them access to your tax records as this includes a whole load of details which could be used for ID theft.
Just call your local tax office to enquire about this. The deadline for 2001/02 tax year is the end of January so they should be expecting these sorts of enquiries.0 -
Hi....i need some information on where to go to to get my child tax credit refunded,,,Firstly let me start by saying i was informed about the child credit tax refund since june 2008 and decided to use the same company to reclaim them as i had used for my Bank charges..(Bank-smart)...I sent all the required information into Bank-smart in november 2008 and using there on-line tracking system could see that they recived my information and set up an account for me including relivant claim number id...I was also aware or the dead line of jan 2009 and was not worried because as above "my claim was apparantly being processed"..To my horror i recived a call from Bank-smart about a different issue and whilst on the phone decided to inquire about why it is taking so long to get my child credit refunded as i fit all the criteria
...I was informed at the end of the year when i emailed the company about the time scale that it useually takes about 3 months to pay out...anyway i have now been informed that my claim has to be cancelled as it has reached the deadline!!!! where do i go now to claim whats rightfully owed to me..i feel let down bt the company who were going to charge me 29% of my award (Bank-smart had my details for over 4 months and now im left high and dry and clueless as to what to do now) please ,please, please can someone help me and point me in the right direction:A pls x
