Email problem

I cannot access my emails through my email client "Thunderbird" I am told "Socket error # 10054 connection reset by peer" what is this and more importantly how do I fix it. This has all come about whilst I have been trying to remove an irritating Trojan using various scanners.

Where are you accessing email from? (e.g. BT, Orange, Hotmail, etc)I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

After hours of PC diagnostics and online research I conclude that my ISP is to blame.
PIPEX...... now the dreaded Tiscali , we will soon part company, I used to be a Tiscali customer 5 years ago, Never Again. Anyone reading this who may be thinking about signing with Tiscali,,,,,,,,,,,,,,DON'T YOU WILL REGRET IT.
