MSE News: Picturehouse is shaking up its membership scheme – can you save on cinema tickets?

Cinema chain Picturehouse is overhauling its membership scheme from Tuesday 22 September. • I don't understand why they've decided to drip-feed the tickets like this, other than greedily wanting to get more full price sales out of members. It also forces you to go in the last month or lose your last month ticket if you don't want to renew. Definitely a downgrade, although the lower price Mon-Thurs offer is a good deal.

It's not clear if a light member can get discounted food and tickets on weekends using their membership. If be interested to know if that's the case. Worth checking the full T&Cs when they come out...

  • In recent years I've renewed my Picturehouse membership during the Black Friday weekend, when the chain has offered a 30% discount. It'll be interesting to see if they offer similar savings this year. For Londoners who can use different cinemas in the chain and for frequent cinemagoers, the new membership deal offers much less flexibility than the previous scheme. Twelve tickets for current releases at £160/year on the top membership tier isn't great value when compared to, for example, Odeon's premium MyLimitless Plus offer (£219 for a year's unlimited admissions) or Curzon's Cult membership (£285 for seven ticket credits a week, which can be used in cinemas or on their Home Cinema streaming platform).
