Travel insurance when awaiting medical investigations

We're taking my grown up kids and other-halves on holiday shortly and two of our party have outstanding issues that are waiting on dates for minor investigative ops.

The two conditions are not urgent or serious, but when they've used Moneysupermarket's tool they get no quotes back.

Does anyone know of an insurer that will simply exclude issues like this (that are under investigation) from cover?

It feels like the main thing is to be covered for getting hit by a bus or taken ill with something serious and new. Heavy periods etc. are not going to be the reason they need urgent attention or need to be flown back from holiday so it doesn't seem right that they can't get cover (or that it should be v.expensive).

Thanks a lot,

Temrael

You will need to contact travel insurers directly, comparison sites only really work for bog standard requirements.

Thanks Tellit, I was after recommendations of insurers that were reasonable/flexible in these sorts of circumstances.

Try Saga, AllClear, Insure and Go, and Staysure.

However, no insurers like undiagnosed or under investigation issues.

I had trouble getting insured for over a year as I had not had my condition confirmed in writing from a NHS consultant, even though all unplanned hospital visits (another insurer red flag) found the issue.

Thanks Ayr, they're presumably a bit young for Saga but we'll try the others.

I have a Lloyds silver account that comes with holiday insurance, this also has a "we just don't cover existing or under investigation" clause and if you want them including you ring and get a quote and pay a top up.

So simply we could go on holiday, not inform them of the fact I am waiting on an operation for a cyst and I was covered for the things like 'getting hit by a bus, or food poisoning'. If you have insurance via your bank maybe it will be the same.

Thanks for that, yes that does seem better going forward. I guess there's always the slim chance that the thing you are waiting to get looked at suddenly becomes serious while you are away but it seems unlikely for most boring ailments.

The other thing to consider is what the insurance company will consider is a 'result' of the condition not covered if you are unfortunate enough to have to claim.

It might seem simple but for instance (and this is something that a relative was told when getting a quote from an insurer) could a broken arm as a result of a fall be linked to that undiagnosed ear condition you didn't want covered (balance issues) ? A new cast on your arm and ongoing treatment means you can't go on holiday as planned but you aren't now covered for that. The theoretical list is endless if insurers decided to fight a claim.
