Money Moral Dilemma: Should the friend who was late for our trip share his train delay compensation?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks…
I recently went on a canal boat weekend with some friends. We live all over the country, so met at the boat hire location. One friend took the train instead of driving, and his train was delayed, meaning we couldn't leave until he arrived. He later told us he'd claimed compensation for the full cost of his train ticket. Should he share this money with us since we were equally inconvenienced?

He should share it with any and all who paid for his train ticket.

No, the payment is for the late train which they had a ticket on. The rest of the group didn't.
Would you be asking anyone who got stuck in traffic to pay for the delay in leaving the mooring?

Never heard anything like it. He isn't obliged to, but if he did so then it would be a kind gesture on his part. What sort of a mate are you, to be expecting such a handout from someone who was unavoidably delayed?

Don't be daft. How old are you?

All of the above answers echoed my thoughts when I read your post! Enough said!

We are told that these dilemmas come from real life questions.
I really, really hope that isn't the case this week.

This must be the most crazy dilemma every posed here! Methinks you are labouring under the misaphrehension that your friend was awarded compensation in excess of rhe cost of his train ticket, like you might get if you had suffered a lengthy flight delay. Train compensation doesn't work like that: The most anyone will get is a full refund if they suffer a delay of 60 minutes or more. Further, have some consideration for the stress your friend will have felt, knowing they were delaying your departure. Only limpets and the like are immune to travel delays. It was NOT your friend's fault. Get a life…I'm glad none of my friends are like you!
