London Open house festival - rare buildings

FYI: The website crashed the moment it opened at 12pm and all the tickets to go to the BT tower & BBC went in 11 minutes. I am gutted! I wish they would run a few more of these sessions.

Bet the tickets for the Lloyd's of London building went quicker than that!

It normally is fully booked but doesnt tend to be the first ones to go. Was dragged along by a friend before during the open day and it feels totally different with it being empty -v- when the boxes are full and business is being conducted.

The trading floors have also changed substantially now, no longer are the underwriters sitting on normal chairs on a raised platform with the brokers having a little stool at the end of the table to sit on.

I'm surprised, this piece from The Guardian this week says it hasn't been open to the public since 2014 (the public viewing galleries here and at a lot of other places went away when the IRA started blowing things up last century).

Had a fair few meetings there myself when I was still working, was always a bit of a wow moment seeing the whole interior. Never got into the 'recreated' rooms.

I've been working in the City for 20 years, been in Lloyds hundreds of times, but never actually for a meeting so you have that me on that one.

Cant remember when I was dragged in with friends, didnt think it was as long ago as 2014 but no idea. Was living in London at that point so would have been around to come into town at the weekend so it could be.

Lloyds isnt one of the buildings look to go in… I go in enough at work and the Mrs felt it was interesting but lacking on the Open Day because its empty. I thought I had seen it more recently on the list but clearly mistaken. I know the two years went in as part of the open day getting in wasnt an issue and just projected that forward.
