im a council tenant.
The council are trying to force me to to sign an updated tenancy?

I think it might be because theyre build 4 new blocks on my estate.
i just wanted some advice on who to speak to about my rights?

They haven't explained to you why they want you to sign? What sort of tenancy do you currently have?

How does the updated tenancy differ? It might be nothing.

no reason given other than it the proposed tenancy.

I havent read it yet so dont know how it differs.

Is it to bring their tenancy terms into compliance with the Renters' Rights Act?

Is it that you've been in your flat 6 months or a year and are now moving from a starter tenancy to a normal tenancy? If so it will probably have better terms and protections for you.

Firstly read both documents to see what's different - you can also use ChatGPT or similar and ask it to tell you any differences.

Then ask the council what the new one is for and why.

If you're not comfortable then, speak to citizens advice or find a solicitor who offers free advice and may be able to help you.
