Will it be possible to renew Open Banking connections to ex-Halifax current accounts?
Will existing OB connection continue to work uninterrupted?2 -
Already getting a new Halifax credit card soon due to changing from Mastercard to Visa. Does this mean yet another one a few months down the line? Can't keep up with it all.

I had that message too, a while back. With a promise that the card functionality would remain the same. Will be interesting to see what will actually happen.

Cant say I am happy as when I got my Halifax CC, one reason is I didnt want to use Lloyds specifically.
However with that said, I have no balance on the card now, and I think it was even closed because I wasnt using it. (barclaycard closed my tesco credit card for not being used as well, when they took over tesco bank).

Most credit card companies will close inactive cards - you need to make sure you use them at least once per year if you want to keep them.

What doesn't make sense to me is why scrap a strong brand like Halifax, but keep brands like 'HGP', 'LDC', 'AMC', 'MBDA' and 'Birmingham Midshires'?
Keeping 'MBDA', and losing 'Halifax' seems particularly strange as they are effectively aimed at a similar market, but 'MBDA' isn't a strong brand, unlike Halifax.1 -
I suspect that it is the Halifax branch presence that makes the difference.
There will be definite cost savings by being able to scrap an entire branch brand.
They said there are no new branch closures due to the Halifax brand closure, but just a couple of weeks ago they announced many branch closures where either the Lloyds or the Halifax was closing in a town leaving the other branch. Obviously they knew what they were planning to announce and got the branch closures out beforehand!

For example in my town
the Lloyds bank is moving building soon (Summer 2026) looks behind schedule & the Halifax branch is about 1-2 mins walk away so no need for 2 branches2 -
Sounds about right. I think it was inevitable that they would merge the two branch networks.
Nevertheless, it's still strange to me why they would keep many weaker brands in preference to Halifax, which would be reasonably easy to make on-line only with branch servicing in a new enlarged Lloyds/BOS network. It's all a moot anyway as they won't change it now they have made a commitment to close it.
I do wonder if some of the weaker brands will last much longer before being subsumed into Lloyds, much as Schroders Personal Wealth became Lloyds Wealth a short time ago.
Ironically in my local market town, they closed the Halifax branch c.12 months ago, but its now going to become a Swansea Building Society Branch, which is a new opening rather than a move for them.

Tesco was inactive for multiple years, then it happened within a few months of Barclaycard buying them.
Barclaycard profiled me with an extremely low limit, so I expect they didnt like the limit on my tesco card.
I still have inactive santander, and mbna.0
