Contraceptive Injection = Weight Gain

Hiya,
I've been on the contraceptive injection for around 6 months and since I've been on it I've put on about 7lb's, I know it's normal for your weight to go up and down but it's really starting to get to me.
Will I lose the weight/return back to normal once my body has got used to it?
TIA.

I had a similar problem to you.
I had the injections and put on about 12lbs in 6 months, I stayed on it, assured I would get used to it. The weight never changed though. I ended up coming off the Depo and having a Coil instead.
The weight dropped off over the next 6 months and I returned to my usual size.
I dont know how they can say it doesn't effect your weight, everyone I know who has had Depo suffered the same as me which is a shame as its a great contraceptive for forgetful people like me.:rolleyes:0 -
That's one of the main reasons I went on it because I was useless with my pill (despite having a phobia of needles)
It's so blooody frustrating

Arrgh how annoying I just wrote a really long reply and it vanished.
I'll make this quick incase it happens again - Yep I gained lots of weight too - I hate the depo - took a year for peroids to return and even then didn't ovulate every month - took hubby and I 2 years to concieve.
I went to the family planning clinic and they talked me through alternatives and I came off the depo - best thing I ever did.

I think it depends on how you look at it with Depo - if you dont mind the bot of extra weight for the fantastic easy piece of mind that Depo gives you ..then Depo is great in my opinion! I think the lack of periods is a real bonus unless you want to try for a baby - I did put on about 10lb on Depo but did lose it again when I came off it. Even though my husband has had the snip I am thinking of going back on the Depo injection just to be rid of periods!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

My daughter has just had to come off Depo as she has developed osteoporosis (sp?) apperently it can be linked to decreased calcium 'laydown' in the bones, something that was never mentioned to her until she insisted on a blood test after I had my standard bone scan because I had been on it so long - the scary bit as they tried to tell her that its hereditry so as I was fine so she would be!I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

I gained at least a stone when I had the depo, lost it once I came off it though. It was a shame because otherwise it really suited me

I had depo for about 7 years until they told me I had to come off it due to the increased risk of osteoporosis. I moved to the implant and am just about due to have my second one in. Unfortunately my periods started again on the implant which was horrible after 7 years without!
I did put some weight on with the Depo, but my weight fluctuates so much it's hard to tell whether I've lost it or not!Proud to be a Clob Clubber :beer:0 -
i started getting periods with my first implant only had it in for 18 months so i had it removed went on the depo for 3 months (1 injection) and had another put back in and i've been fine ever since. maybe try that and see if it works for you i was having a period every 2 weeks it was hell!! but i was having problems with cysts and stuff and im only 21
