Letter Before Claim (Moorside Legal) & Letter of Claim from HM Courts MCOL

Hi All,

I have just received two different letters, for two different parking fines. I have read through the newbies forum, and checked a lot of similar cases, but I just wanted to get some advice on two letters I had received.

Letter Before Claim - Moorside Legal

I received a 'Letter Before Claim' from Moorside Legal, for an amount of £170, this is regarding parking in a small private car park, around 2021. I'm not even sure If I'm referring to the correct incident, because it has been so long. In between, they have sent a couple of general letters, then from Debt Collectors and it has been passed around to various companies, which I had ignored. I know a lot of people on this forum suggest ignoring such letters, as it is more scaremongering than actually having any meaning.

I have now received this 'Letter Before Claim'. It is just a single letter, no pack attached, it suggests I have 30 days to pay. I have attached it with redacting all personal information.

My main question is, should I 'Ignore this Letter', much like the the ones previous, or should I email using templates provided in other forums? If so, what should I mention when emailing? I know, if they really want to proceed, they can then send a 'Latter of Claim' from HM Courts & Tribunals Service, and I can then follow the correct process to defend this? Also, I don't see a contact email anywhere on their letter.

I have also received a 'Letter of Claim' for a different parking fine, for parking at a Tim Horton's, for longer than what was allegedly allowed. This is coming from BW Legal. Again, I had ignored all prior letters, and I have now received a 'Letter of Claim'. I have signed up to MCOL, and Acknowledged Service (AOS), giving me an extra 28 days, with Issue Date being 17th April 2026. I am shortly going to prepare a defence, using the instructions/template in the newbies thread.

The only reason written under the particulars section in the Letter Of Claim is that 'Drivers Breach: Parked for longer than the maximum period permitted'. < £255 for this is basically daylight robbery.

In all honesty, what is the likeliness of winning either of these so called claims?

It would be great if someone can get back to me on the above.

Thank You to everyone in advance; and Thank You for having such a helpful forum.

You should already know from reading post 2 of the NEWBIES thread that we see reported wins 99% of the time and it's a no-brainer to defend ALL private parking claims.

Why? Because even if you got to a (rare) hearing the sum most judges would order (if you attended but found yourself in the 1% who lost) would be £212.

Far less than the claim and not much different than the £170 in the threatograms and LBC. Moorside Legal never turn up or send anyone to court so they are spectacularly hopeless.

Anyway, please keep this thread for the court claim ONLY. Use the Template Defence.

You'll need a new thread for the Moorside UKPS case but it's not urgent.

The claim is your priority in April.

Either ignore the LoC, or respond with the LoC response template, doesn't really matter

If it results in a claim form from them ,start a new thread about that claim , after it arrives

Same advice for any other LoC or Money Claim

As for the Money Claim from Premier Park via B W LEGAL, its a court claim, not a Letter of Claim, but an actual court claim , so use the defence template to defend it, with our help

Don't worry about possible outcomes, deal with each stage properly, if you want to have a good chance of winning

  • Thank you for your swift response and information is very helpful. I will keep the Money Claim from Premier Park Via B W Legal as my priority, and use the template from newbies and information available in other threads to provide a defence.

In regards to the Letter Before Claim from Moorside Legal, what would be the best action for this? I am thinking about using a template, do you have a link to where I can find this? and should I start a new thread for this?

Sorry about the constant questions, Thank you for your help thus far.

Its in post 2 in the newbies sticky thread in announcements near the top of the forum by coupon mad, who did mention it earlier

Start a new thread about if or when you receive a Money Claim N1SDT pack from the CNBC in Northampton using MCOL about it

"should I start a new thread for this?"

That is what I said… but no need yet.

With an issue date of 17/04/26 and providing you complete(d) the AoS after 22/04/26 and before or on 06/05/26 your defence deadline date is 4.00 p.m. on 20/05/26

  • I have just been going through my archived letters regarding the UKPS Ltd 'Letter Before Claim' incident; and realised I had received exactly the same letter in July 2025🤣. I must have archived it and thought nothing of it. So, it seems like some real scarmongering tactics from their side. I will respond anyway using the ready written template in Post 2 in the Newbies thread.

Thank you so much for your help @Coupon-mad & @Gr1pr & @Le_Kirk for the deadline dates. 😀

    Hi All,

I have just prepared a defence for the Money Claim from BW Legal. Am I okay to share it here, so someone can advise if its ready to be submitted? (Obviously without any personal information). Thanks in advance.

Yes but we only want to see your own para 3 please. For the other 9 paragraphs you'll use the Template Defence, which we hate being inflicted with and expected to 'check' on thread after thread like Groundhog Day!

No problem, please see my paragraph 3 below:

    3. 'The Defendant is unable to recall the specific circumstances of the alleged event due to the passage of time. The Defendant has little knowledge of the alleged contravention and has not been provided with sufficient detail to understand the claim. The Claimant is put to strict proof of all allegations.'
