So that's about 4.5k per month net then.

Do you plan on holding on to the Premier Account long term (more than a year)? If not, it doesn't matter what you deposit into it once you deposit your £4k for the switch offer (assuming you're going for the switch offer).

take care here, i gave transfer a try, even though i qualify, and hold other, not bank, accounts with barclays, lots and lots of hoops to jump through, their systems contradict what instructions on website show, staff, when able to get through to them seem to be primed to say, try this, but the trying invariably does not work and you end up at a step further back in the process than you started

it then ends with attend at local (meaning not very local) branch invitation to verify ID, even though i had only done this a couple of months back anyway

now locked out of the app and as i say, systems seem back to front and a lot of catching up to do to equal the fintechs

too much faffing about for me and will look elsewhere, lloyds was first choice but had thought later in the year for that if this barclays had completed

if it works for you thats great, £400 for the account switch and potentially up to £600 ( i think) for cash isa switch

    system install feb 2015......3.78kw

Yeah its the £400 switch offer I am interested in and the £4k in is no issue. I was wondering what exactly they check re: salary or is it just the expectation that £XXXX is paid in every month. I've since read elsewhere that as long as you have £3k ish into the account pm then they typically dont care.

Sounds a pain. Tbh my only dealing with Barclays was many years back for a 0% credit card offer. Got accepted and they gave me a credit limit of £500 (typically at the time I was getting £10k everywhere else) and they said after 6 months it goes up. I said that makes the card almost useless - so cancelled there and then. Still worth a punt for a free £400. I do apparently have a local branch. I would have tried the Lloyds offer but already did a switch with them less than a year ago.

You don’t need any salary at all to be eligible for the Premier Account. Many people aren’t salaried (e.g. self employed, freelancers) so may not have a weekly or monthly (to use an ugly Americanism) "paycheck" coming in. You need to fund it with income or have the required amount of savings or “eligible investments” with Barclays.

They have no way of knowing what you earn or how you earn it. If you keep the account for over a year without having funded it with £75k+ or you don’t have the adequate amount of savings or “eligible investments” then they can downgrade or close the account.

When you switch, if you're transferring more than £4K, does that count as a pay in, or do they want you to pay £4K directly into your account after the switch? Ideas?

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get the text message to confirm the requirements have been met? My switch with 2 direct debits completed on 24th March, and my salary of over £4k was deposited into the account yesterday.

A balance transfer as part of the switch counts according to the criteria:

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/premier-switch-offer/acqagg/?chnnl=AFF&msrc=MSM&campaign=AFFS_BUKACQ_PRCA_SALES_CASS_PERF_DTB_AFFB_BSRT_FEB26_APR26_MSUP&dclid=CjgKEAjw1ZjOBhDgz_Od1uv7qk0SJAAjdKKzYfIwDW4aD6NNdmPYDXYmuzA16T6dj4zUjyFzDH8it_D_BwE&gad_source=7#Step3

Step 3: Add £4,000 into your account
Make sure at least £4,000 is paid into your new Barclays account within 30 days of opening it.

This can be done as a balance transfer when you use the Current Account Switch Service, or in instalments.

I've just opened the Barclays Premier account and initiated a switch from Lloyds. I didn't seem to get any confirmation via email or text - just a confirmation on the App (wish I had screenshot it now). Are you talking about confirmation of your cashback bonus?
