    We have had a couple of these replaced over the past 15 years or so, I think ours is the 28mm one.

    Usually it is just a replacement of the 'box' not the whole valve, so usually a very quick job requiring nothing more than a screwdriver and about 30 mins effort, if that.. 

  • Unless of course the valve's mechanism is old and sticking. Quite often they fail closed or open.
    If it is old a d stiff to operate it is probably worth changing the whole unit rather than just the electrical head. That's not much more expensive in parts but would be a bigger labour cost likely needing the system drained.

    No need to drain the system.  Search for Pipe Freezer Spray.
