    27th of what ?

    https://www.expedia.co.uk
    https://www.airlinenetwork.co.uk
    https://www.ebookers.com
    https://www.travelbag.co.uk

would get you started with comparing routes and general costs
, then you can narrow down and specialise.

We flew with Emirates from Birmingham Last summer ..Booked about April time ...The prices fluctuate ..And this seems to be the best time ...
Through Asiatravelmarket ..Here is a link .

    tickets about £558.00 each

That was for flight during school summer holidays

If you book with expedia and choose the flight and hotel option, and just book a hotel for your first night it is actually cheaper. I was looking at flights to KL for August from Manchester and the cheapest were £505 with emirates but including 1 nights hotel at the cheapest hotel were £503. These emirates flights seem to be the cheapest available at the moment but you need to be a bit flexible on dates. There might be other offers coming up but who knows.

    Thats interseting to know .
Last time I rented a car and drove to Penang from KL ..A bit of a struggle driving for 5 hours after after 14 hours of flying ..A one night stopover in Kl (especially if it makes my flight cheaper would be great )

this might not suit you if you want to only do KL but if you take in hongkong as well you could try a combination of oasis air and airasia:

    http://fly.oasishongkong.com/booking/selection.aspx
£711 approx for 2 from gatwick to hong kong

    http://booking.airasia.com/skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi
£148 approx for 2 macau to KL

to get to macau from hong kong is a ferry ride away, no longer than an hour. comes to about £430 each. might not suit you if you dont want to travel but if you have the time, hong kong is well worth it, there's enough to do for a few days with lots of free stuff.
