I have recently had a claim on my home contents insurance for an accidentally damaged plasma TV. THe damage was due to cleanining the panel with an inappropriate cleaner and has left a mark permanently on the panel.

The insurance company has agreed to cover it under my contents accidental damage cover.

I asked someone the other day, if I might be able to buy the damaged TV back from the insurance company, because it makes a good spare set for my WII. I was told that it might still be my property despite the insurance company paying the claim to replace it.

Does anyone know the legalities of this?

  • Not sure if its relevant but when my 3 year old gave my laptop a drink of squash the company who the insurance company sent it to to be looked at would have happily returned its dead remaind to me if I'd paid them postage! As it was just got the HDD back and let them deal with the disposal!
