Shares ISAs, Capital Gains Tax, and the upcoming budget

I keep hearing that the Chancellor is planning a tax raid in the forthcoming budget. My basic question is: could she tax money or gains in Stocks and Shares ISAs? If she can, what's your estimate as to how likely such changes would be?

The chances of that happening is just about zero.

Pointless speculation and taxing ISAs is particularly pointless

I reckon they could instead decide to reduce  the yearly allowance,  limit the total  you can accumulate in them , and perhaps scrap the idea that a  widowed spouse can add the  value (if left to them)  of their partners isas into their own isas. I think  starting to tax  existing ones now would be just too unpopular , but my guess is that  theoretically they can do anything they want .

Instead of speculating on budget, try speculating on your lottery winning chance. You will get better results.

She could do that, yes. She could do pretty much anything, tax-wise given the size of the government majority.

We'll find out if she will or not next week.

She is only planning a 'tax raid' in certain sections of the media, who are speculating wildly before the budget.
This happens before every budget, but there seems to be some particularly fevered imaginations this time.
