maybe final fine details won't be as clear cut as we'd wish but on reading this it looks good.

edit: iv'e removed the link to the story as "this is money" appears to have pulled the article. probably waiting for tomorrow when it appears change will happen.

as i said in the OP, need to wait on the "fine details", more of us may be forced to business if there turns out to be a selling threshold, either quantity or value related.  not quite nailed on yet that its the perfect scenario.

oh, and thats my 5k post, not quite as spectacular as i hoped.  :D

I think there's going to be a lot of business sellers who are going to be very peeved with this!

Years ago I was selling something made from components intended for a different purpose, the only competition was a couple of private sellers, looking now one of the main private sellers still has their listing up with 3k sales from that single listing.

I know there is a lot of talk about tax but you never know if someone is declaring their income regardless of the type of account so putting that aside, I would be pretty annoyed at paying out a monthly fee for a shop or 36p per listing + nearly 15% FVF (once the VAT is added) compared to someone paying zero.

It's odd they are reducing 1000 down to 300 whilst effectively allowing someone to gain an endless number of sales from those 300 listings.

My view has always been that eBay wants the money so they'd rather keep "private" sellers than enforce the rules and risk losing them (in fact that applies to pretty much all their rules!) so it will be interesting to see if/how that changes if FVFs are scrapped and whether any features are rolled back from private accounts.

Not sure if that article has been pulled already (maybe it was a day early?) but the quote in it from eBay did talk about the diverse number of products on eBay which is something a little unique to eBay, Amazon has never made it easy to sell 2nd hand items and clearly show their condition + over the last few years Amazon does appear to have more and more people selling the same tat from China via FBA under different "brands" when in fact it's all the same stuff, with eBay never meeting Amazon in terms of shifting certain products, not wanting to lose the genuine private sellers making their marketplace somewhat unique does seem to make sense.

I can’t get the link to show the eBay bit, perhaps as the_lunatic says it has been pulled. I’ll be interested to see any new developments though and if this does apply to categories that Vinted allow, does rather go along with the theory that Vinted is ‘just’ high profile enough to niggle at eBay- in very limited categories.

Everytime a new competitor to eBay is mentioned on here most of the long term sellers, myself included look for the ‘hook’ that one thing that makes them stand out and not just an off the shelf hobby site. For those who don’t know the  Vinted model it is an interesting one. At the moment no business sellers at all are allowed,  although there are of course  thousands of them, sellers pay no fees at all and buyers have very little protection. The selling categories are very limited and sellers are only supposed to list against those very limited categories, again though never has so many rules been broken by so many people. Interestingly those categories are mainly clothes and accessories. EBay have already targeted clothes- now jewellery and accessories (possibly).

Lunatic also makes a very good point about MVLs, whilst they won’t get any FVF discounts as they are specifically disallowed under the offer terms  they usually only count as 1 listing, so 100 identical items listed as a private seller on an MVL will only be 1 of the 300 listings used. I have always thought that a quick win for eBay would have been to remove the option of MVL and variation listings for private sellers, who shouldn’t need them.

I was referring to private sellers that have already previously been forced on to business accounts due to their volume sales.  I deliberately didn’t mention the future possibility of more sellers being forced on to business accounts because as you said, the fine print is yet to be seen.

For those it’s already happened to prior to this announcement, I can’t see a way back to the free private selling for them.  Would closing their business account and opening a new private one work?  Who knows 🤷‍♂️

I did read it before it was pulled and it said everything except the motoring category.

Thank you, I admittedly was going by a post I saw elsewhere (actually on a Vinted forum) that mentioned things like jewellery and accessories- the same as Vinted categories. I probably misunderstood what they meant as I was busy trying the link!

An interesting point has been raised elsewhere that I think has some merit, although as usual it’s just a case of wait and see. They suggest that the 300 listings for a private seller coming in from tomorrow will work in conjunction with this free to sell, so it is possibly going to be ‘free to sell up to 300 listings a month’. EBay HQ are in the US so it is likely to be that any announcement will be officially made (hopefully) only when they are all awake and operating from the 1st October.

It does mention paying the 35p per listing over 300, I know you had the free to sell promotion towards the start of this year, IIRC there wasn't any limit on that listings wise but it did only apply to listings for a single QTY?

Possible there will be exclusions, I guess we'll have to wait and see, I have a bunch of tat treasure to sell before Santa brings yet more tat presents so free to sell will be welcome and should they impose any type of restrictions on listings types it's not something will bother me as i never use them anyway.

Same here. I use MVLs and variations on my business account as financially it makes sense as a MVL is charged just one lot of listing fees. I would struggle to think of a good reason to need them on my, or any private accounts.
