Various tiny pensions, no idea where

I have been a contractor for many years now doing various different jobs and being enrolled into pensions along the way.
I have no idea how much is in them or where they are. I would like to find out where they all are, what's in them and to combine them in one place.
Where should I start from the very beginning?

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -

Make a list of who you worked for and when? It would help with any tracing service, and if some employment isn't found, you could write to the company and see if they have any information.Depending on how long you worked and when, some periods may not actually have ended up with preserved rights (they could have refunded your contributions to you eg)0

There are companies that will do some of this tracing for you. Though you'll need the employer names.

I have found my NEST and Legal and general ones thus far
I will probably just transfer any I find into one pot for ease more than anything as we are only talking no more than 2k.
Are any providers better than the others or much of a muchness at these figures?0 -

If you have a pension you are currently paying in to, that could be a place to transfer to initially. Then you could take time looking around at both what you would like to invest the money in, and which providers may be cheapest. Then when you next change, everything you have in the one fund could be transferred to a place of your choice, which you keep as the place to transfer to, at the end of each contract, going forward.0
