OVO Energy former SSE - Miscalcuated bill for over 2 years, what to do?
I had a smart meter installed on 6/2021 but for some reason thy kept giving me estimated bills aof the meter that was there before.
Then out of sudden i recieveed a over a £1,000 bill for one month for electricity and i cancelled DD and contacted them numerous times about updating the meter from the date stated on the sticker on the new meter. I never had any replies from them and kept sending emails and calling them about the issuee but they have never got back to me or when i was on the phone i was being pass around the departments because nobody knew what to do with it and was told that somebody will email me about it. I have copies and evidence of all the corespondence with them about updating it.
I had to move out of properety and I called them about closing the account and tried to explain to them that the final bill is completly wrong. Whole account went under the investigation and 12 weeks later i have recieved a huge bill of £1800 as they re calculated the whole bill from:
26th of April 2021 to 23rd of March 2024. I was making payments all the way till June 2022 and i think one payment
was December 2023 as i was threatened that they will pass this to debt
collection agency.
Are they allowed to bill me for 3 years???
As I am aware theey arent allowed to charge me for more than 12 moths of electricity as stated on ombundsman website.
This whole situation cost me so much time and caused me so much stress over the past few months as this is an ongoing case now. They tried to issue goddwill gesture of £30 but I reefused to accept it as i still think its unfair for issuing a huge bill after 3 years becuase of their internal error.
I really dont know what to do and I would appriacte any advice in any possible route i could possibly take to solve this in my favour.
Thank you

They can charge you for more than 12 months under some circumstances - yours seem (on first view) to possibly be included in those circumstances.
I'm afraid I can't interpret much more from the rest of your post, it's a little confused as to what went on. If you made a formal complaint and you're not happy with the result, then you can go to the Ombudsman but I think you would need to make your case clearer for that to help.0 -
Are you disputing you used the £1,800 of electricity, or just the sporadic billing?
Whether back-billing rules (the 12 month limit) apply depends on what bills you've been getting.
So can you share your bills details since 6/2021, readings and usage in kWh?
Cancelling your DD was not a wise move.0
