Leaseholder changed and new bank details only sent my email which went into junk

Hi We own a flat that we rent out, the Leaseholder changed, the same person but to a different company. I last received an email saying that this was to happen and have not heard anything since. I have paid a bill which I admit was late, to the old leaseholder details and have now discovered that she sent emails which went into my junk as it was from a different new email address. Should they have sent the new bank details by post to avoid this happening as I am now being charged a late payment fee.

Don't you mean the freeholder? You're the leaseholder (I presume). Are they only corresponding with you by email and not by post? Do they have a correct postal address for you (and they're not writing to the flat)?1

one does have to love the modern world where "everyone" always looks to blame someone else as their first reaction
use of email is now a legally accepted method of communication, there is no legal requirement to also send snail mail
you failed to monitor your own junk folder, your fault, not theirs2 -
I would simply explain the situation that you had paid on time albeit to the old account, not the new one. Proof that you had paid on time might buy some sympathy. Might not work but it's worth a try.
There's so much junk mail these days it's very easy to miss stuff frankly. I get particularly annoyed when I've properly received things for years which suddenly start going to junk. How much was the late fee?
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. But, I think that late fees have to be reasonable and only cover the costs that the management company would have incurred due to you (OP) paying late.
If they're charging £50 that's one thing. If they're trying to charge £500, that's another thing. How much are they charging you?1 -
Thanks for everyone's feedback, however useful or not! I have challenged them and they have waived the late payment fee on this occasion.5
