What is the economical holiday option for 2 Adults and 2 kids (1 adult for hols)?

What and where is the most economical holiday option for 2 Adults, a 10 year old & 16 year old (usually classified as adult for holiday companies)? Especially when the need is to travel during the school holidays, Easter, half-term etc.

Further to my earlier question, a general enquiry about the above, as a single person now landed in the world of family holidays, my guess would be self catering in a non EU country but is that really the case and what would the cost difference be? Esp. as I would be the one doing the cooking (including for a young one with a v. limited diet) unless the resort was cheap enough to allow for eating out at all times ????

My partner seems to think All inclusive is the answer. I think it's restrictive and not very economical unless all the 3 adults one of whom is under age intend to drink and eat to excess.

Or is it half board, b&b or full board?????

Does one of the school holidays represent better value for package holidays than another?

Please advise.

  • self packaging and self catering will save a fortune.
Carefull selection of flights and using the likes of hotelscomparison.com or Kelkoo to search out the cheapest accom.
Ryanair, Jet2,Thomsonfly, Easyjet and Globespan are all competing on routes at many airports now.
ie Easyjet and Jet2 to Palma from Newcastle
Easyjet, Globespan and Ryanair to Alicante from Edinburgh
Easyjet and Ryanair to Alicante and Palma from Liverpool
competition helps to keep prices low.
Use skyscanner or flightchecker to find the cheapest fare, and its possible to fly out with one and back with another to fine tune the savings
