Rome for 40th Birthday: Is it possible to stay at a resort and travel into Rome?
My sister is 40 this year and wishes to go to Rome; I think I remember being told that you can travel in easily by going to a nearby? resort and using that as a base and that this can work out a cheaper and more enjoyable option than a city break.
Any suggestions much appreciated whether about the above or generally about Rome.
Many thanks

Not sure if this is the type of thing you're thinking of, but the Palazzo Della Fonte hotel in Fiuggi is a fantastic hotel. It's about 45minutes to an hour outside of Rome itself, but they have a courtesy bus taking you in and out of the City each day. It's a real special occasion type hotel, with a superb spa and fantastic facilities, so it's a briliant way of combining a city break with a more traditional hotel holiday.
It used to be part of the Meridien group, (think it might be Starwood now?)and they have always been excellent at giving room upgrades and making a special fuss if they know it's a special occasion.
It's pretty costly but there's usually lots of deals to be had, and special offer breaks available.
Rome is incredible, but it gets incredibly busy and very hot, particularly in August; Tripadvisor.com would be a good place to start checking out hotels and essential visitor information.
Hope this helps, but feel free to pm me if you need any more info!0
