Where is best to download music??

Right - now I'm really mad with eMusic!
1 week into my 30-day free trial, they have charged £8.99 from my card.
I raised a ticket asking for this to be refunded (and cancelled the account), and they replied with a standard message saying:If you are contacting us regarding charges from eMusic on your credit card
please note that we do not issue refunds for subscription-related charges.
Per Section 6.4 of eMusic's Terms of Use which you agreed to when you
registered for your account, all charges made during your subscription
period are nonrefundable.
I have replied again stating that this charge is NOT covered by 6.4 because it was not made during a subscription period!

I was in the process of signing up to eMusic for an audiobook subscription. However, on the screen With my credit card details I noticed that I needed an additional subscription for audiobooks, so in effect I had to pay two subscriptions. There was no cancel button or confirm button on the page so I used by browser 'back' button and assumed that the process would be stopped.
I felt uncomfortable so I double checked and yes, they had signed me up. I immediately used the cancel form on eMusic but did not get a cancellation confirmation. And yes, a few days later the took money out of my credit card account.
Trying to get hold of someone from eMusic is impossible via e-mail - and trying to trace a valid phone number is just as difficult.
I contacted my VISA company and they have put the account into dispute. Even if I was keen to continue there should not have been any charges during the 'free trial' period. EMusic trying to hide behind the small print is not on.

Taking money from accounts during a 'free trial' period amounts to theft or obtaining money by deception.
My credit card will expire in two weeks so I am hoping that this will be enough, before the VISA dispute team can officially resolve the matter, to scupper any future debits from my account. VISA noted that if no other resolution is available I will need to cancel my card and be reissued with a brand new account number.
I have also written to the London office with a formal complaint. I will let you know how the matter is ultimately resolved.
My advice, think once, then twice, then thrice, then take your music download custom anywhere but eMuisc - from my experience and those of others I have found on the internet - they are guilty of sharp practice.0 -

You do NOT have the right to charge my account during a FREE trial period.
You have taken £8.99 from my account - this is not covered by Section
6.4 of eMusic's Terms of Use because it was not charged during a
subscription period.
Please refund immediately, or I will have to escalate this issue.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Just to confirm - checked my bank account today and refund of £8.99 (not $9.99!) has cleared.
Keep persevering with them, guys! :beer:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

There was no cancel button or confirm button on the page so I used by browser 'back' button and assumed that the process would be stopped.
I too used the 'back' button assuming it would stop the process then to be on the safe side cancelled as well, however, I have just noticed that £8.99 has been debited to my Visa account. I sent them an email on Thursday but have not yet had a response and judging by the comments could be waiting a long time. I think I have to assume that I'm not going to recover the monies and attempt to cancel my account again. I fear that if I wait for them to respond they may charge another month's subscription fees!
I would strongly advise anyone thinking about subscribing to a download site to avoid e-music at all costs. It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0 -
It took a bit of doing but looking at my last VISA bill eMusic have refunded my money. I wrote a 'to the point' letter to the London address and heard no more. VISA originally sent me packing but after sending them a large file of information - based on all the negative feedback I have found on the net, they took action and put the amount into dispute and, in the interim, also refunded the money. The will recover this next month as eMusic have come up with the refund.
My advice, don't take the first NO from your credit card company - keep pushing and keep writing.
As for eMusic I would have liked some form of written response but the refund is a result regardless.
I looked at the eMusic sign up site and it is still replete with reassuring words about ‘no commitment’, ‘no obligation’, ‘cancel at any time’. But we know different now, don’t we.0 -
eMusic also took £8.99 from my card account when I cancelled during the 'free' trial. Looks like they do this all the time.
They have not responded to my emails either. I HATE companies like this.
Looks like it's best to avoid this shambolic, thieving company altogether. If you want music downloads - go elsewhere.
