Has anyone actually sold anything on Facebook Marketplace?

I have been trying to sell a lawnmower and I thought I would sell it easily when my phone started pinging with messages. How wrong I was! Endless 'is it still available?', silly offers, and vague queries. I am not prepared to give out my address unless to someone who stated a specific time they will visit, but no-one wanted to do that. What is the secret of selling with this method?

These days - there is no secret. Whatever you sell, you get all of the above. That, and the scammers. I almost feel it's time every village and town had a local board where you could put a little postcard in the window - just like the old days.

Lots of smaller towns and villages have local Facebook groups, though whether buying and selling are allowed depends entirely upon the rules of each group.

Olio is an alternative, you can sell things on it and it's designed for local physical collection, no posting.  It's still a relatively small audience though, and app-only as far as I know.

I know local to me there's a fb 'village' group - but they don't allow random buy and sell stuff. Maybe the OP will be luckier in his locality, as if they do, might get seen by a better audience.

I have sold lots on FB marketplace.  I always state pick up only and it is still available unless marked sold. I never reply to "is it still available".  I also give the post code to those asking where we are then give house number just before someone comes to pick up.
Yes often get time wasters usually young women and often they say things like "my friends car won't start so can you drop it off".

I have just sold a Casio Keyboard - it took a few days, after receiving about 4 or 5 messages saying they will send a courier with cash. Of course the listing said “cash on collection” etc. yes I never give out my full address until someone is definitely coming to collect.

I've bought & sold via FB; generally picked up & cash.
I think the "Is this still available" is a canned reply when you go to respond, but my thought is always "Are you asking because you are curious or do you actually want to buy it?".
As for offers, I generally find that people's asking prices can be "optimistic", but on occasion I have told them it's not enough and offered more.

What I do now due to so many timewasters saying they want and will pick up the next day or whenever (but never turn up).... I now put on the sale page "if you say you want, you must pick up within the next 3 hours"..... at least then I can move on to the next buyer who say they want..... plus I now put "No Offers"

Be careful of scammers, I get loads asking "is it still available " then they disappear. I've been using Ebay for 15 years now, yes they have fees but I've sold all over the world

Likely you are asking too much for it then. Never had any issues selling at the right price. Speak to neighbours who complain they get initial contact or sill offers, when I look at what they are asking its not surprise given what they are asking.
