Urgent Advice Needed: Mum Scammed by Driveway Contractors

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking urgent advice for a situation where my mum got scammed by door-to-door travellers who convinced her to pay £2000 for driveway work. Initially quoting £3000, they bargained down to £2000. They started the job without permission, tore up the entire driveway, and took £1000 in cash for supposed equipment.

They promised to return but haven't shown up for two days, claiming the digger is unavailable. We have the contractor's name, signature, his picture, and the company name on the van they used. We also have a handwritten contract.

Any advice on how to handle this situation or steps to take legally would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Sorry to hear OP, if they are who you described, whilst not the best news, personally I'd hope they never come back and would write off the £1000, better than paying £2000 for a driveway that will start to crumble very quickly. :)

Odds of recovering money sound slim sadly.
