Child benefit - self assessment now or not??

Hi, all
As of April 2023, I got a pay rise that took me just over the £50k threshold.
I've registered for self-assessment, which is quite daunting after 40 years of PAYE!
I've now had a letter stating I need to get a self-assessment declaration presumably covering 2022-2023 in before the end of the month, even if I don't think I'm due them anything.
Is this correct, I need to put in a declaration even for a year that I wasn't over the £50k...??
Thanks for any advise, desperately confused!!
